Most basement flooring is made of wood, tile, carpet, or laminate. These options are porous and like a sponge - they simply take on water until the flooring can't hold anymore. They also have a wood subfloor which absorbs water and holds the liquid in place beneath the flooring. This is critical because where water sits, is where mold and mildew thrive.
