The Versatility of the Carpet Tiles
Over the last few years, I have seen a real move away from carpet. Most people are opting for hardwoods or laminates and carpet is almost becoming a thing of the past, that is except for area rugs that are lovingly placed over a hardwood floor to add color or style to a room or simply to protect those hardwoods in high traffic areas.
With a resurgence in area rugs, it is not surprising that carpet tiles have become a popular choice for many. If you aren’t sure what a carpet tile is, it is simply a square of carpet that can be placed on the floor with other squares of carpet.
Usually a carpet tile is about 18 inches by 18 inches in size, although you can find them in other sizes if you look hard enough, and you usually buy them in a package that contains several tiles. There is a huge selection to choose from and you can mix and match the tiles to make your own patterns that flatter your space.
One of the best points to the carpet tile is the fact that they are so versatile. You can use them in just about any space and you can really play around with the size and shape of your rug. You can make long rugs for a hallway or a large area rug with little difficulty.
The carpet tiles are designed so well, that you barely notice a seam when you have them arranged and in some patterns, the seams blend in so well that you rarely remember that you used carpet tiles.
Another great point about carpet tiles is that they are excellent to use if you have children. Now when a spill wrecks the corner of the carpet, you don’t have to rearrange your furniture, all you need to do is slide out the tile that was stained and replace it with a leftover tile that you have in the storage closet. It is quick, easy and completely painless to replace a tile, especially if you purchased extra when you bought the tiles.
If you rent a home, then the carpet tile is probably a perfect choice for covering up old rugs or flooring. It is very easy to decorate your space and when you move, all you need to do is pull up the tiles and take them with you. At your new home, you can rearrange the carpet tiles to create a new and beautiful carpet that will fit any new dimension that you choose.
When it comes to carpet tiles, I am a big fan and I think it has more to do with the design and less to do with the carpet. I can really play around with the patterns and create new ones or I can stick with the pattern the manufacturers created.
Carpet tiles have even gone green and you can find several brands of carpet tiles that are made from both natural and recycled fibers. So with something that is so versatile that it will fit any space, why not add them to your home. I’m sure everyone has a space that needs a little extra.
